Resumo:

A crescente conscientização da importância de questões ambientais – esgotamentode recursos naturais, aumento de efeito estufa e mudanças climáticas,escassez de água de qualidade, poluição de ar urbano etc. – tem levado designerse pesquisadores a buscarem cada vez mais “soluções sustentáveis – desenvolvendoprodutos e serviços para o futuro” nas suas atuações (Charter; Tischner, 2001),com a sustentabilidade se tornando uma prioridade competitiva. Assim, nos anos 1990, principalmente na Europa, ecodesign e Design forEnvironment têm desenvolvido abordagens para considerar questões ambientaisna inovação. Desde 2011, a norma ISO 14006 cunhou uma definição padrãocomumente adotada para o ecodesign: “A integração dos aspectos ambientais naconcepção e desenvolvimento de produtos, com o objetivo de reduzir os impactosambientais adversos em todo ciclo de vida de um produto” (p.2), acrescentandoque outras terminologias utilizadas em todo o mundo incluem: EnvironmentallyConsciousDesign (ECD), Design For Environment (DFE), green design e environmentallysustainable design (ISO, 2011).
